The Music Pool in Schools

Since 1998, over 5,000 pupils have taken part in Music Pool projects in primary and secondary schools, thanks largely to a successful partnership with the Music Service of Herefordshire Council LEA.

Projects include:

  • original work based on aspects of the curriculum, e.g. science, history, geography
  • specially-devised music theatre projects and shows on a given theme or subject, also featuring related arts like acting, dance/movement, writing and visual arts
  • after-school clubs and school holidays projects
  • working with national and international artists who are performing in the area. Some recent successes have been:

    - Black Umfolosi (Zimbabwe) at Wigmore & Haywood High Schools & feeder primaries
    - Ashley Hutchings at Lady Hawkins High, Kington
    - The Brasshoppers at Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School and St Mary's RC High School
    - Isla St Clair at Broadlands Primary
    - Imbongi (Zimbabwe) at Minster College, Leominster, and feeder primariesFunding for schools projects comes from a variety of sources, including schools' own contributions and subsidy from Music Pool grant funding, as available.
