Dean's pilgrimage benefits The Music Pool

25th April 2012

The Dean of Hereford marks the Three Choirs Festival with a special 90 mile pilgrimage, and donates to The Music Pool

It’s well known that this year’s Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest music festivals in Europe, will be held in Hereford, from 21st to 28th July. To commemorate the occasion, the Dean of Hereford, the Very Rev’d Michael Tavinor, has recently made a special pilgrimage – a 90-mile sponsored walk around the three Cathedrals of Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester.

In keeping with the Festival’s long traditional links with charitable giving, the Dean is sharing the proceeds between supporting a concert in the Festival (the Goldberg Variations by JS Bach) - and The Music Pool.

“This community music charity for Herefordshire works to enhance the lives and communities of the county’s people, of all ages and abilities, joining together to make music!” the Dean said.

Dennis Schiavon from the Music Pool walked alongside the Dean for a short section of the route. “These aren’t easy times for charities such as ours, and we’re most grateful to the Dean for helping us in this way – I was very glad of the chance to accompany him for a few miles” he said. “The Three Choirs Festival brings the finest music to Herefordshire. It’s a jewel in the county’s crown and we’re honoured to be a part of it, with our Gathering Wave community singing project.”
