Dreams, disappointment, needing to break free… How different was
it being young at the end of the nineteenth century, to the excitement
and struggle of being young now and trying to make your voice heard? Music,
dance and text are just some of the art forms being used in a new music
theatre project based on the life and work of poet John Masefield.

The Music Pool in Hereford is working with groups of young people (ages
13-20) to put together a vibrant and challenging piece of work, bringing
together several art forms to reflect aspects of the poet’s life.
Masefield spent his childhood in Ledbury, his teenage years at sea and
at times near destitution in New York, and struggled to become a writer.

A professional writer-director, composer, musician, choreographer, designer
and filmmaker are all collaborating on the project which will culminate
in performances of:
Dead Man Singing at Hereford College of Art and Design on 22nd and 23rd
June and John Masefield High School, Ledbury on July 5th and 6th (during
Ledbury Poetry Festival.)
